Meralco's case is set to kick off a netizen who allegedly raised his friend's bill to P1.773 million this lockdown.

A Meralco investigation revealed that the bill came from an account owned by SM Development Corporation - and is a corporate account linked to 1,364 serviced by the electric company.

As such, Meralco will sue netizen Joven Salarda for violating cybercrime law with the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation.

Meralco, meanwhile, explained why the bill was higher this May compared to the previous months that netizens were surprised.

According to Manny V.Pangilinan's electric company, the bill in March and April was based on average daily consumption in December 2019, and January, February 2020 - which is lower because electricity consumption is lower due to cold climates. .

According to Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga, there has been an adjustment to the May bill due to recent electricity consumption last month.

“The May bill is a result of the actual kWh Consumption from the current meter reading, with adjustments already reflected from the previous estimated consumption. This total, which is already based on the true and actual readings, is what customers actually see in the May bill. That is why you may notice a rise in the total amount due,” Zaldarriaga promised.
