Duterte: OFWs are not required to pay PhilHealth premiums - GazeFeed

President Rodrigo Duterte has reacted to increasing PhilHealth's mandatory premium contribution to overseas Filipino workers (OFW).

In an online press briefing, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the President would make voluntary payments to the OFWs.

"The President issued a directive to PhilHealth to voluntarily pay OFWs PhilHealth premiums," Roque said.

This is followed by a 3-percent increase in OFWs' premium payments ranging from P10,000 to P60,000, which PhilHealth points out in Universal Healthcare Law where Roque is the principal author.

Roque said the UHC Bill did not state anything about the increase in OFW charges regarding the PhilHealth premium.

"The law does not say that OFWs should be offered additional premiums the way PhilHealth intends to enforce," the President's spokesman said.
