Malacañang will study Metro Manila Council's proposal to extend the community quarantine's 15-day extension to Metro Manila.

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said they will be based on the science and speed of contamination and the ability to provide critical care should the National Capital Region expand or lower the general community quarantine.

It is important for the government to ensure that the public is safe on COVID-19 as the ECQ's objective is to ensure that Filipinos reduce or limit the contamination of the cornavirus.

"Let's see, because it is based on science, it is based on the speed of spreading the disease and our capacity to provide critical care," Roque said.

ECQ is expected to be twice extended to Meto Manila due to the increase in COVID cases during March and April.

But Roque said the ECQ extension has been good as the contamination has been declining, compared to recent months.

“The good news is that COVID patients have doubled every two days. Now in Metro Manila, it doubles every five to six days. And outside of Metro Manila, it doubles in seven days, ”Roque added.

Despite this, the secretary said the government's ability to control the spread of COVID-19 was not yet complete, according to a statement from a Department of Health expert.

But Roque does not rule out the possibility of implementing a general community quarantine in some areas of Metro Manila as Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año previously announced.

"That's what I think, and Secretary Año said there are areas where we can secure GCQ because we need to open our economy," Roque said.
