Mystica could be punished for swearing at Duterte, Roque said - GazeFeed

Singer Mystica may be punished for blaspheming and defaming President Rodrigo Duterte.

This is what Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque revealed following the singer's viral video in which the President was ridiculed in connection with the 2019 coronavirus disease crisis.

Roque said that while the President is committed to freedom of expression, he has a law that does not guarantee the freedom to express what he wants to make public.

“The President has always stood for free speech, but in the field of Human Rights Law and International law, freedom of expression is not absolute. There is a boundary, ”Roque said.

He can limit freedom of expression in the event of a national emergency, and COVID-19 is not just national but international emergency.

As such, the spokesman said the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act could be used to punish Mystica and other Filipinos who have vowed to the President.

“Mystic, there is a law that can be used to punish you! The international covenant on civil and political rights states: A state can derogate among others in freedom of expression in the event of a national emergency. We know that COVID is not just a national emergency. It is an international emergency, ”Roque added.

In Mystica's viral video, he joked and challenged Duterte to self-quarantine, not release and not feed.
