Citizens who consume electricity at 50 kilowatt per hour or so are called "lifeline consumers" are free to pay for the month of March-April.

Secretary to the Cabinet Karlo Nograles announced this at the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

According to Nograles, free billing for the month of March-April covers poor consumers not only in Luzon but also in Visayas and Mindanao.

"For electric cooperatives of lifeline consumers here in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao - with the exception of the one-month grace period for electricity payments, your consumption is free during the March to April billing period," Nograles said.

It is estimated that about three million consumers will benefit from the initiative of the National Electrification Administration (NEA), Philreca and electric cooperatives involved in Pantawid Light.

The secretary said the Department of Energy assured the IATF that there was sufficient electricity supply throughout Central Luzon and that there were over 4,742 megawatts of supply in the region.
